A website set up to celebrate Tarnaveni Hospital centenary in 1998. This website gives a short history and biography of some of the founders and is in English.

 

Volunteering organisations

Pro Vobis
The Romanian National Resource Centre for Volunteering. Pro Vobis exists to promote and develop volunteering as a viable and irreplaceable resource in resolving the problems that Romanian society is now facing.

Voluntariat
Offers useful resources for individuals, organisations, institutions or companies interested in volunteering. The site includes sections aimed at volunteers, volunteer managers, volunteer centres, the press and a section with general information on the topic of volunteering (only available in Romanian).

Volum
The Federation of Organisations Supporting the Development of Volunteering in Romania. Volum has a policy and advocacy role, and includes not only organisations working for volunteering but also any NGO that works with volunteers, such as Save the Children and The Red Cross  (only available in Romanian).

CEV
CEV is the European Volunteer Centre, and the voice of volunteering in Europe. CEV is a European network of over 80 mainly national and regional volunteer centres and volunteer development agencies across Europe, that together work to support and promote voluntary activity.

National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO)
A national membership advice and support organisation promoting the voluntary sector in the UK. The site has a wide range of downloadable resources available to members and others.

Volunteering England (merged with NCVO in January 2013)
VE is committed to supporting, enabling and celebrating volunteering in all its diversity. Their work links policy, research, innovation, good practice and programme management in the involvement of volunteers.


Penumbra
Penumbra empowers people to look forward to mental wellbeing with recovery focused support and individually set and managed goals.

Mental health and disability organisations working in Romania

Romanian League for Mental Health
The RLMH is a membership-based organization shaping governmental policy and promoting alternative practices in mental health in Romania.

Relief fund for Romania
The Relief Fund for Romania run a combined arts therapy programme for adults with special needs, and fund project work with other Romanian partner organisations.

Estuar
The Estuar Foundation was set up in 1993 by the Romanian League for Mental Health and the Scottish Association Penumbra. Its mission is to provide social options and alternatives for adults with mental health problems to support their reintegration into the Romanian community.

European Network of Ex-Users of Psychiatry
Information about the network and other organisations.

Comber  
The Comber Foundation is an Irish charitable trust set up in 1990 to improve the quality of life of children living in orphanages in Romania. It believes that large-scale institutional care is unacceptable and is committed to supporting the right of all individuals with disabilities to live in the community.

Health Action Overseas (HAO)
Health Action Overseas is a registered Irish charity, which provides training, direct support and individually-designed programmes for children and young people with disabilities in Romania.

HAO Romania
HAO Romania is a non-governmental and not-for-profit charitable organisation supporting young people with a disability to leave institutions, move into homes in the community and lead full, active lives. Registered as a Romanian charity and founded in 1999 by Health Action Overseas - Ireland as the first step in localising their activities in Romania, HAO continues to fund all HAO Romania activities.

Mental Health Europe

VfMH is a member of MHE. An umbrella organization, MHE represents associations, organisations and individuals active in the field of mental health and well-being in Europe, including (ex)users of mental health services, volunteers and professionals. As such, MHE bridges the gap between its 88 member organizations and the European institutions, and keeps its members informed and involved in any developments at European Union level. 


Human rights organisations

Mental Disability Advocacy Centre
The Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC) is an international human rights organisation which advances the rights of children and adults with intellectual disabilities and psycho-social disabilities. MDAC uses law to promote equality and social inclusion through strategic litigation, advocacy, research and monitoring and capacity-building. MDAC operates at the global level as well as regional and domestic levels in Europe and Africa.
